CLEVELAND, Ohio (AFP) - Ms Michelle Knight, one of three United States women kidnapped, raped and held captive for a decade before being rescued this week, was released from an Ohio hospital on Friday, a hospital spokesman said.

The spokesman confirmed to Agence France-Presse Ms Knight had left the hospital in Cleveland, without giving further details.

The 32-year-old "is in good spirits and would like the community to know that she is extremely grateful for the outpouring of flowers and gifts", the hospital said in a separate statement posted to its Twitter and Facebook pages.

"She is especially thankful for the Cleveland Courage Fund. She asks that everyone please continue to respect her privacy at this time."

Ms Knight was freed by police on Monday, after her fellow victim, 27-year-old Amanda Berry, managed to call out to a neighbour, who kicked in the door of the suspect's home, allowing her and the six-year-old daughter she bore while held hostage to escape.

Ariel Castro, a 52-year-old unemployed bus driver, is accused of snatching Ms Berry, Ms Knight and 23-year-old Gina DeJesus in separate incidents around a decade ago and holding them captive in his home.

Ms Berry's six-year-old-daughter by Castro, born while she was held hostage, was also kept locked in the house.

Ms Knight, who has reportedly accused Castro of impregnating her multiple times and then beating and starving her to force miscarriages, was the last of the women to be released from hospital.
