8 nabbed over London attack

Police yesterday raided at least six addresses in various parts of Britain and arrested as many as eight people, after Wednesday's attack in London. Prime Minister Theresa May said the British-born attacker likely acted alone and was known to the intelligence services.

Green way to remember Mr Lee

Thirteen different species of shrub were planted in Tanjong Pagar GRC yesterday, in a ceremony to mark the second death anniversary of founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew.

Among them were the Vallaris glabra, or the bread flower, and Pleiocarpa mutica, which were favourites of Mr Lee and his late wife, Madam Kwa Geok Choo.

Japan land scandal deepens

The head of a Japanese nationalist educator, under fire for a sweetheart land deal that has hit the popularity of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe (pictured above with his wife Akie), told the Diet that he was "surprised at such a drastic and unexpected price cut". Mr Yasunori Kagoike also reiterated his claim that Mr Abe made a donation of 1 million yen (S$12,600) through Mrs Abe, which was swiftly denied by Tokyo.

China-Asean talks on code

China will host a meeting with Asean in May to come up with a "preliminary agreement" on a framework for a "code of conduct" meant to ease tensions over disputes in the South China Sea. A draft is being circulated to get Asean's 10 member states to sign off on it.

Plans for green bond market

Sustainable investments have gone mainstream, and Singapore is taking steps to match the demand by growing a green bond market, National Development Minister Lawrence Wong said yesterday. A green bond grant scheme will be introduced from June to kick-start the introduction of such bonds as a new asset class.

Australian golfer Jason Day pulled out abruptly from the WGC-Dell Matchplay in Texas after six holes to be with his cancer-stricken mother, who is due for exploratory surgery for lung cancer today.

The tearful world No. 3 did not say when he would return to the game or whether he would play in the US Masters starting in less than two weeks.

Home-grown experimental rock outfit The Observatory usually perform as a quartet, but their latest gig at the University Cultural Centre Hall tomorrow will feature their biggest stage line-up yet. They will collaborate with 30 guitarists who are students and staff of the National University of Singapore.
