Turkish boy, 13, dies after sacrificial goat jumps off building and lands on him

ISTANBUL - In a freak accident, a boy in Turkey was killed when a goat due to be sacrificed for the Muslim Eid al-Adha festival jumped off a roof of an apartment building and landed on him, reported British media.

And in an ironic twist, the goat that landed on Heval Yildirim, 13, had been bought by his father, and stored on the roof of their apartment building because there was no space in their home, according to the Daily Mirror.

The animal had jumped over a fence on the roof in a bid to escape, but fell onto the boy who was playing with friends on the street six floors down, the paper reported.

"I am devastated but what more can I say? In fact there is nothing at all to say. Even the prosecutor has said this incident could be the first of its kind around the world," the distraught father Mehmet Yildirim was quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

The case is being investigated, but prosecutors have called it "unprecedented", said the paper.
