Five people died when a tram overturned in Croydon, south London, yesterday. More than 50 people were injured in the early morning incident, police said. The tram derailed close to central Croydon, a large suburb and major transport hub. Local residents said they heard a crash, followed by shouts. "They started bringing up the casualties, some very seriously injured. People were carried away on stretchers," Ms Hannah Collier, 23, told Sky News. The tram driver has been arrested as part of investigations.
