Angry Bulgarian truck drivers blocked off the country's main border checkpoint with Greece yesterday to protest against weeks of blockades by Greek farmers that intermittently disrupted traffic.

The farmers have demonstrated for over a month against pension and tax reforms demanded by the European Union, blocking roads into Bulgaria and across Greece with tractors.

A 17km line of heavy-freight trucks had formed at the Bulgarian side by noon yesterday, according to Agence France-Presse.
