TOULOUSE (AFP) - French economist Jean Tirole on Monday said his Nobel prize for economics was a "big surprise" that nevertheless "felt good".

"One is never a very good judge of one's own work and so it was not something I was counting on," Tirole told AFP in a telephone interview after winning the prestigious prize for his work on big companies, market power and regulation.
