Singapore on Friday (July 15) expressed shock at a deadly attack at a sea-side promenade in France that has killed at least 84 people who were celebrating the Bastille Day.

"Singapore strongly condemns the heinous attack in Nice, France on 14 July 2016 that killed and injured many innocent people," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said in a statement issued to media.

"The Singapore Embassy in Paris is in contact with the local authorities to ascertain whether there are any Singaporeans affected by the attack," it said, adding that all Singaporeans in Nice, France registered with the MFA, have been verified to be safe.

The MFA urged Singaporeans in France to exercise vigilance and follow the instructions of the local authorities, and when possible, let their family and friends know that they are safe.
