PARIS (AFP) - All sporting fixtures in the Paris area this weekend have been cancelled after the terror attacks that left at least 120 people dead, the local authorities said.

The message was passed to the heads of sports federations as the French capital reeled from an unprecedented series of shootings and bombings, including suicide attacks outside the Stade de France national stadium while France were playing Germany in an international football match.

No matches in the elite Ligue 1 soccer division were scheduled this weekend.

A friendly international against England scheduled for Tuesday in London might also be cancelled.

"We will liaise with the French Federation in due course and update accordingly" to see whether the game would be played, the English football association (FA) said on its Twitter feed.
