Patients and staff evacuated from Istanbul psychiatric hospital after gunman threat


ISTANBUL - An armed man has locked himself into a room at an Istanbul psychiatric hospital and threatened to kill himself and others, the BBC reported on Wednesday (Feb 1), citing Turkish media reports. 

The incident took place at Istanbul's Cerahpasa hospital. 

Officers are reported to be negotiating with the man. Patients and staff have been evacuated from the hospital, the report said. 

Earlier, the report said the man had taken medical staff hostage. It also said the man was believed to be a patient at the hospital's psychiatric unit.
