Italian naval and coast guard ships rescued some 4,500 migrants from rubber dinghies and a wooden boat in 24 hours on Tuesday (July 5).

More than 67,000 migrants have arrived in Italy by sea so far this year. Although this number is fewer than the same period in 2015, the number of deaths on this dangerous route has jumped since last year.
