A plane flying from Athens, Greece, to Vilnius, Lithuania, on Sunday (May 23) was forced to make an emergency landing in Minsk, Belarus, after a bomb threat was made on board, which was followed shortly by the appearance of a Belarusian fighter jet alongside the craft.

While the emergency landing of an airplane flying over eastern Europe after being diverted in mid-air might appear insignificant, what happened next was not.
