BERLIN (AFP) - A German court Wednesday handed a €1,200 (S$1,930) fine to a Femen activist who bared her breasts in a Christmas Day church protest last year.

The now 21-year-old Josephine Witt, a Hamburg student, had painted the words "I am God" on her chest and scaled the altar of the Cologne Cathedral on Dec 25, 2013.

She was quickly led away by church orderlies after what she later said was a protest against the Catholic Church's attitude to women and then-archbishop Joachim Meisner's views on abortion.

The Cologne court found her guilty of the charge of "disturbance of religious practice".
