ZURICH • Two small planes crashed at an air show in Dittingen, Switzerland, killing one of the pilots, police said.

Two of three aircraft flying in formation crashed shortly before 11.30am local time (5.30pm Singapore time), Basel-Landschaft police said yesterday in a statement.

One of the pilots, a 50-year-old man, was killed while the other escaped unharmed by parachute.

The third aircraft was able to land safely. The cause of the accident is being investigated, police said.

This is the second air show disaster in two days. At least seven people died when a fighter jet ploughed into several cars on a busy road at the Shoreham Air Show in southern England last Saturday.

The pilot in that crash, said to be a former UK Royal Air Force pilot, is in critical condition. Another 14 people were injured, said the BBC.
