Egypt army chief urges street rallies to fight 'terror'

CAIRO (AFP) - Egypt's army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday called for rallies this week to grant him a mandate to fight "terrorism and violence", as Mohamed Mursi's supporters continue to protest his ouster.

"Next Friday, all honourable Egyptians must take to the street to give me a mandate and command to end terrorism and violence," he said in a speech broadcast live on state television.
