French riot police clashing with protesters demonstrating against labour law reforms yesterday near the Gare de Lyon train station in Paris.

The fresh protests over the proposed reforms came just a day after the beleaguered government of President Francois Hollande was forced into an embarrassing backdown over a plan to strip convicted terrorists of French citizenship.

At issue is the proposed overhaul of France's labour code, a set of regulations that employers claim deters recruitment. Critics say the reforms will lead to job losses and worse working conditions.
