Archaeologists rushed to the ancient city of Palmyra on Sunday to assess the damage wreaked by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) after it was ousted by the Syrian army in a bloody battle. The picture on the left shows all that remains of the Arch of Triumph after government troops recaptured Palmyra from ISIS fighters on Sunday. This is juxtaposed against a photo taken on June 19, 2010, (second photo) of the iconic structure prior to it being destroyed by ISIS extremists last October.
