MONTREAL (AFP) - Two police officers were wounded in a shooting in Canada's province of Alberta on Saturday and the suspect found dead after a manhunt, the police said.

The two police officers had spotted a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of a casino in the city of St Albert, north-west of Edmonton, before they were shot inside the casino, said Marlin Degrand from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

The suspected shooter was a man of about 30 who fled before being pursued to an empty residence nearby.

The police did not speak with the suspect or fire shots. They entered the house and found the man dead, Mr Degrand told a press conference. The two officers were hospitalised, one in very serious condition, he said.
