Drug burn in Panama

Authorities in Panama burned illicit drugs on Tuesday (April 7) seized since January with an estimated street value in the millions of dollars.

The massive haul came from various anti-narcotic operations throughout the country as cartels from Mexico and South America use Panama as a regional corridor to smuggle drugs north towards the United States.

Unloading hundreds of packets of cocaine, marijuana and heroin, authorities spent hours stacking the haul and then stood guard as it was set alight in the Cerro Patacon dump in Panama City.

The majority of the drugs haul was made up of cocaine, believed to have made its way to Panama from South America since the start of the year.
