Irish woman to donate organs in Singapore after falling critically ill while on trekking holiday

A 22-year-old woman from Derry, Northern Ireland, who collapsed after a trek up a volcano in Indonesia, will be flown back to Singapore to have her organs donated here.

Lisa Orsi, who had been working as a physiotherapist at Bright Vision Hospital at Lorong Napiri in Hougang for the past year, was on a holiday with friends in Indonesia last week when tragedy struck.

She had fallen ill a few hours after a trip up a volcano, and subsequently collapsed in the bedroom after taking a shower.

Assange appeal lodged with Swedish Supreme Court in bid to end embassy stand-off

Lawyers for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said Wednesday they filed an appeal to Sweden's Supreme Court seeking to quash the 2010 warrant for his arrest on accusations of rape and molestation.

Assange lawyer Per Samuelsson said he lodged the appeal with Sweden's top court Wednesday afternoon to end the stand-off in which the WikiLeaks founder remains holed up Ecuador's embassy in London to avoid arrest and extradition, while Swedish prosecutors refuse requests he be questioned there.

"We have to end this - the situation is completely stalled, and that's the point we raised in our appeal," Samuelsson said in criticising what he called the "total passivity" of prosecutors who he said "have done nothing in four years."

Turkey's Erdogan mocks 'men who wear skirts'

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday mocked men who wear skirts, in an apparent jibe at activists who wore female clothes at the weekend in a protest supporting women's rights.

"They call themselves 'men'. What kind of men are they? Men wear trousers, why are you wearing skirts?" he said at a televised speech at his presidential palace in Ankara.

A few dozen men had marched through central Istanbul at the weekend, in a highly-publicised protest calling for an end to violence against women following the attempted rape and murder of a 20-year-old female student by a bus driver.

Water found in astronaut's helmet after spacewalk

A US astronaut found water pooling in his helmet right after completing a six-plus hour spacewalk on Wednesday, raising new concerns about flaws with Nasa's spacesuits.

The water inside Terry Virts' helmet was "kind of pooling on the front side of his helmet above the eye level," European Space Agency astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti told mission control in Houston.

Cristoforetti said Virts was in no immediate danger, even though the amount of water had increased in the moments since he first noticed it.

America's Next Top Model contestant killed in North Carolina: Report

A recent contestant on America's Next Top Model was killed in a triple slaying in Charlotte, North Carolina, police and the website TMZ said on Wednesday.

Police said Mirjana Puhar, 19, was among three people whose bodies were found in a home Tuesday evening.

Emmanuel Jesus Rangel, 19, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with three counts of murder, Charlotte police said in a statement.
