Kenya's election campaigning starts

Official campaigning for Kenya's general elections begins today.

Kenyan political parties have registered a total of 11,309 candidates for the Aug 8 elections, which will include presidential, gubernatorial and legislative elections. The tally does not include independent candidates.

G-7 to release formal communique

Group of Seven leaders will issue a formal communique today which is expected to include contentious issues like trade and climate. A French official said that doubts over what United States President Donald Trump, an avowed climate-change sceptic, will decide on have led to unprecedented uncertainty over what the G-7 will be able to say in its final communique.

Peranakan Festival kicks off today

The Peranakan Festival will be starting today and run over four weekends until June 17.

Activities that showcase Peranakan culture - such as dance performances, art and craft workshops, cooking classes, exhibitions and tastings - will be held at Claymore Connect in Orchard Road during the festival.
