GENEVA • The largest flawless, heart-shaped diamond has sold for nearly US$15 million (S$20.8 million), breaking a world record in its category.

The 92-carat diamond, given the name "La Legende", forms the centrepiece of a necklace of cultured pearls sold in Geneva on Wednesday by auction house Christie's.

The sale price of around US$14.99 million is a world record for heart-shaped diamonds, Christie's spokesman Alexandra Kindermann said.

The piece was designed by the Boehmer et Bassenge jewellery house established last year and named in honour of Charles Boehmer and Paul Bassenge, famous Parisian jewellers of the 18th century.
