Straits Times Contest: 3 readers win Risis prizes for guessing that the first CNY baby would be a boy

Three lucky Straits Times readers have won Risis prizes for guessing correctly that the first baby born during Chinese New Year would be a boy.

Ms Chan Ching Lim, Mr Rajkumar Muthachari and Ms Kathy Tan Hui Keng are the winners and their entries were chosen from almost 400 entries submitted.

The contest, held from Jan 25 until Jan 30 at 6pm, was open to all Singaporeans and permanent residents. Readers had to answer the question parked in a 16-square grid in our Big Story, CNY Survival Guide 2014.

Ms Chan won the top prize comprising a Concord horse figurine worth almost $600 and a handcrafted zodiac bell horse necklace worth about $200.

She decided to take part in the Chinese New Year giveaway contest after seeing a post on the Straits Times' Facebook page.

"I will probably give the figurine to my mum to thank her for everything. Maybe I'll keep the necklace for myself," quipped the 37-year-old R&D engineer.

The two other winners, Mr Muthachari and Ms Tan, will receive a silver zodiac necklace each.

Ms Tan, 37, a freelance blogger, bookmarked the contest page after seeing it online before finally deciding to enter.

While she plans to keep the necklace, Mr Muthachari said that he would give his to his wife.

"I read more than nine articles before finding the question," added the 33-year-old IT associate. "I guess I got lucky."

Al three of the first "horse" babies, born at the stroke of midnight last Friday (Jan 31), were boys. Their families received cash and prizes from Risis and Dettol.
