PAP drops in at end of busy day at ELD

People's Action Party (PAP) MP Alex Yam arrived at the Elections Department in the late afternoon on Friday, capping a busy day at Prinsep Street.

The Chua Chu Kang GRC MP arrived at about 4.15pm and told reporters that he submitted an application for a political donation certificate. He also picked up a hard copy of the register of voters.

Mr Yam's appearance means all political parties which have expressed an interest in the Punggol East by-election, and even some people who haven't, have dropped into the Elections Department.

When asked on Friday how his party viewed the potential multi-cornered fight, Mr Yam said: "I think the choice is for the voters to decide. It doesn't matter how many people there are contesting, as long as all of them are out to provide an alternative platform that voters are attracted to, then I think the choice should be left to the voters".

Earlier in the afternoon Reform Party chief Kenneth Jeyaretnam and a representative of former Singapore People's Party candidate Benjamin Pwee dropped in to pick up nomination papers. The Workers' Party also picked up nomination papers today while the Singapore Democratic Alliance submitted two applications for political donations certificates.
