Flurry of activity at the Elections Department

After a slow morning, there has been a flurry of activity at the Elections Department. In the last hour, the Reform Party chief Kenneth Jeyaretnam and a representative of former Singapore People's Party candidate Benjamin Pwee dropped in to pick up nomination papers.

The Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA), which picked up nomination forms yesterday, submitted two applications for political donations certificates, a prerequisite for standing in an election.

These are declarations that candidates have not accepted foreign or anonymous donations of $5,000 or more, among other things.

It is understood that one of the applications is for SDA chief Desmond Lim and the other is for Mr Harminder Pal Singh, 40, a motivational speaker.

Mr Singh was the leader of the party's Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC team during the 2011 General Elections.

Mr Jeyaretnam arrived with a group of supporters and said they would be heading to Punggol East after picking up forms.
