A part of the Tanah Merah Country Club (TMCC) will be acquired by the Government to build new taxiways as part of Changi Airport's expansion plans.

This expansion involves the construction of a three-runway system in the upcoming Terminal 5, which requires new taxiways to be built around an existing runway to facilitate the safe and efficient movement of aircraft.

The new taxiways will also link existing airport facilities, such as Terminals 1, 2 and 3, to new facilities at Changi East like the future Terminal 5.

The acquisition could affect six holes of the Tanah Merah golf club's 18-hole garden course, three tennis courts and two storage sheds.

The Government had earlier informed TMCC about airport expansion works that could affect the club, said a Feb 16 press statement jointly issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and the Singapore Land Authority (SLA).

"SLA and CAAS are in touch with the management of TMCC to assist the club in mitigating the impact of the acquisition," it added.
