The Singapore men's table tennis team trounced Australia 3-0 in the Olympics team event on Saturday, earning themselves a quarter-final showdown against hot favourites China.
Gao Ning got the ball rolling with a 3-0 win over Justin Han, while newcomer Zhan Jian made his Olympics bow with another straight games win over William Henzell.
Zhan then teamed up with Yang Zi for a 3-1 win over Robert Frank and Han in the doubles to complete the rout.
The Singapore trio are scheduled to take on China's galaxy of superstars on Sunday for a place in the semis.
Said Gao: "We will aim to take one or two matches off them. We want to make them nervous."
