Olympics: Singapore men crushed by China in Olympics table tennis
The Singapore men's table tennis team had their Olympic campaign ended by China on Sunday, losing 0-3 to the top seeds and defending champions without taking a game off them.
Singapore's Gao Ning was the first to fall in the quarter-final, losing 0-3 to world No 2 Ma Long.
Zhan Jian also offered little resistance. He lost his match against Olympic singles silver-medallist Wang Hao 0-3.
Zhan and Yang Zi failed to stop the Chinese express in the doubles, going down 0-3 to Zhang Jike and Wang.
Speaking after the match, Singapore coach Yang Chuanning said he was satisfied with the performance of his players.
"We fought very hard, but China was really too strong," he said. "We achieved our pre-Olympics target of reaching the last eight and that's a historic improvement."
