The 53 workers who took part in the Dec 8 riot have been repatriated to their home countries.

They received stern police warnings and will not be allowed to enter Singapore again, said police at a press conference on Friday evening.

The police added that of the seven migrant workers who were previously charged in court but had their charges withdrawn subsequently, four have been issued with stern police warnings and will be sent back to India on Friday night. These four had full access to consular assistance and met members of the Committee of Inquiry. The other three will be issued police advisories but be allowed to remain in Singapore.

The group of 200 workers who were involved in the rioting but has a "passive and incidental role" will be issued formal police advisories this Sunday at the Police Cantonment Complex. They should be accompanied there by their employers and will be spoken to in their native language.

This group will neither be detained nor repatriated and will be allowed to stay on in Singapore to continue with their employment, but they must not come to "adverse notice" again, said police.

The police also reiterated that the restriction order on the sale and consumption of alcohol in Little India is still in place this weekend. No one is allowed to drink alcohol in any public place within the proclaimed area during weekends, public holidays and the eve of public holidays. The sale of alcohol must also end at 8pm. Police officers will be in the area to enforce the ban.

Police added that the Government is working with dormitory operators to provide more weekend activities for migrant workers.
