32 issued with police advisories for flouting drinking restrictions in Little India

A total of 32 persons have been issued advisories for drinking in public within the Little India proclaimed area during prohibited times since December 14 last year.

All of them complied with police advice to stop drinking and had the alcohol in their possession seized, said a police statement on Thursday night. The weekend ban on public consumption of alcohol in the area takes effect from 6am on Saturdays to 6am on Mondays and on public holidays, starting from 6am the day before and ending at 6am the day after.

On Dec 22 last year, the owner of a Jalan Besar eatery within same area was also found serving alcohol to customers despite not having a valid licence for the sale of liquor.

The owner, a 44 year-old man, is due to appear in court on Friday and could be fined up to $5,000 if found guilty.

The police will continue their heightened patrols in Little India to enforce the ban on alcohol consumption and the licensing restrictions on the sale of alcohol, added the statement.
