The Straits Times on Thursday launched its latest e-book, ST100, which highlights the most significant news events and trends of 2013 and looks at what 2014 has in store.
The all-you-need-to-know-about-2013 multimedia package is downloadable for free from Apple's App store.
The 118-page e-book features the top 10 stories spanning 10 sections on Singapore, World, Money, Sports, Photos, Cartoons, Online, Technology, Fashion, and Arts, Entertainment and Food.
The iPad app contains interactive features such as videos and photo galleries from Singapore news such as the country's worst haze ever and home-grown multi-award winning film Ilo Ilo to global headliners such as the Boston marathon bombings and the geopolitical tensions in East Asia.
It also includes essays on what 2014 may bring as well as a slideshow of 10 key events to look out for.
"At the start of a new year, it's timely to look ahead at what may shape the year. Our writers have done this in print, as well as on our website," said Straits Times editor Warren Fernandez.
The app is part of the newsroom's continuing push to stay at the forefront of multimedia journalism.
Mr Fernandez added: "Our new e-book goes further in summing up the top stories from 2013, as well as what might be top of the news in 2014, in words, pictures and videos. Its our way of helping ST readers get on top of things as we enter 2014."
Also featured are the most-read stories on straitstimes.com, the ST art desk's picks of illustrations by well-known cartoonists and artists such as Lee Chee Chew and Miel; and the best photos of the year taken by the paper's photojournalists.
The e-book is sponsored by interior design firm, Sky Creation.
Said Dr Sky Tan, its chief executive officer: "We are honoured to partner The Straits Times in launching its first digital platform that features the top 100 events of Singapore.
"It is important for us to reflect on these major events so that we can see what lessons we can gather from them."
ST100 is the second e-book produced by ST.
ST's first e-book, Myanmar Sunrise, released in April 2013, offers a riveting look at the world's newest democracy experiment and South-east Asia's last big economic frontier.
It won an award in the "Specialty/Niche Sites and Niche Apps" category presented by Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers' Association (Panpa) in August 2013.
