Asus Transformer Book T100

A handy 10-inch tablet running a full version of Windows 8.1, the Asus Transformer Book T100 transforms into a laptop once you attach the bundled keyboard dock.

This device uses a new quad-core Intel Atom chip that is more than adequate for most basic computing tasks. More importantly, it is extremely power-efficient, with up to 12 hours of uptime.

A bonus is that it comes with a preloaded copy of Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013.

Dell Venue Pro 11

A 10.8-inch Windows tablet with the processing power of an ultrabook is what you get with the Dell Venue Pro 11. It offers users the choice of a quad-core Intel Atom CPU with excellent battery stamina or a more powerful Intel Core processor.

Both versions run Windows 8.1. Optional accessories include a stylus, a keyboard and a docking station.

Lenovo ThinkPad Helix

This 11.6-inch tablet can be used four ways. Attach it to a keyboard dock and it becomes a clamshell laptop. Face the screen outwards and it is more useful for making presentations.

The screen can be folded down on the keyboard to create a thicker slate. This gives the device more juice from the keyboard's battery.

Built-in fans in the keyboard cool the tablet.

Microsoft Surface Pro

Microsoft's initial foray into tablets includes the Surface Pro, which is a Windows ultrabook in tablet form. This 10.8-inch slate packs a capable Intel processor, 4GB of RAM and up to 128GB of solid-state storage. There is also a full-sized USB 3.0 port and Mini-DisplayPort, such as those you would find on a notebook.

But the highlight is the sharp, 1,920 x 1,080 pixel screen with 10-point multitouch. Running a close second is the integrated kickstand, which snaps out to let you use the Surface Pro like a laptop.

Sony Vaio Tap 11

The Sony Vaio Tap 11 is probably the thinnest Windows tablet we have seen last year. Yet, Sony managed to fit a powerful Intel Core processor inside this slim plastic chassis. Like the Surface Pro, the Tap 11 has a kickstand but it is adjustable. The tablet comes with a super-thin keyboard that attaches magnetically and acts as a protective cover for its full high-definition screen. Also included is a stylus that works with Sony's proprietary note-taking app.
