Search is on for the heir's heir
Xi poised to lead CCP but 3 young turks will also be in the spotlight
BEIJING - The heir apparent has not even taken over, yet the search for his successor has already begun.
When Vice-President Xi Jinping assumes the helm of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) at its impending leadership transition, the spotlight will also be on the career progression of a group of young turks.
The posts they snag will give an early indication of who are in the running to succeed Mr Xi when he steps down in 2022 as part of China's once-a-decade leadership transition.
For now, the contenders are three provincial party secretaries: Inner Mongolia's Hu Chunhua, Jilin's Sun Zhengcai and Hunan's Zhou Qiang.
