Budget 2013: Acting Minister Chan Chun Sing to chair Enabling Masterplan committee

Acting Minister for Social and Family Development (MSF) Chan Chun Sing on Thursday in Parliament revealed that he will chair a committee to implement the Enabling Masterplan 2012-2016.

The Enabling Masterplan, which was released last year, charts the development of programmes and services for the disabled here.

Mr Chan said there will be more financial provisions and transport options for people with disabilities. For example, a $3.1 million grant has been awarded to SMRT Taxis to bring in wheelchair accessible taxis.

MSF will also provide a wider range of care options for adults with disabilities. Adult Disability Homes will have 3,320 places in 2020, up from the current 830 places. Day Activity Centres will have 1,450 places in 2020, up from the existing 950 places.

Three MPs had asked for an update on the Enabling Masterplan in Parliament on Wednesday. Ms Denise Phua (Moulmein-Kallang GRC) suggested building more day activity centres and helping those who are able to work to get better job placement and training, while Mr Png Eng Huat (Hougang) called for public transport concessions for adults with Down's syndrome.
