China key leader's familiarity 'a plus' for Tianjin Eco-City
China's seventh-ranked leader Zhang Gaoli's familiarity with the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City has been "a plus for us", said Senior Minister of State for National Development and Trade and Industry Lee Yi Shyan, as he cited recent major strides in the bilateral project.
"Our Chinese counterparts told us that we were very fortunate because Vice-Premier Zhang Gaoli himself was very familiar with this project and needed no introduction to this project," he told Singapore reporters after a meeting here yesterday of the project's joint working committee.
The leader of the Singapore delegation, National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan, chaired the meeting with Chinese Minister for Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Jiang Weixin.
The bilateral project broke ground in 2008 under Mr Zhang's five-year tenure in Tianjin, which ended in late 2012 when he entered the Communist Party's apex Politburo Standing Committee.
