New at Comex is the Acer Predator 17X gaming laptop.

Besides having top-notch gaming hardware, such as an Intel Core i7 chip that supports overclocking, the Predator also has a 17.3-inch Nvidia G-Sync display that helps to reduce stutter and lag during gaming.

But its best feature is a triple-fan cooling system that is said to keep components cool even when the laptop runs a graphically-demanding game. The direction of rotation of these fans can also be reversed to minimise the dust build-up that reduces their efficacy.

2 Aftershock S-15
$2,158

Booth 6612

Looking for an affordable gaming laptop that will run virtual-reality games at the best quality?

The Aftershock S-15 fits the bill at just over $2,000. This buys you an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics chip which, despite being a mid-tier product, is fast enough to run games at maximum settings at the laptop's native 1,920 x 1,080-pixel resolution.

The keyboard, too, has received a major upgrade. It has better key travel than its previous version and its backlight can now be customised to show any colour.

Aftershock will be giving away a gaming headset at Comex with every purchase of the S-15.

3 Asus ROG G752
$4,298

Booth 8238

The Asus ROG G752, with its silver aluminium body and orange highlights, bucks the trend of black-clad gaming laptops.

Compared with last year's model, the new version has an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 graphics chip that is up to 80 per cent faster than the previous model's. This chip is capable of running virtual-reality games without a hitch.

To complement the new graphics card, the display has a high 120Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals.

4 Dell XPS 13
$2,299

Booth 8241

One of ST Digital's favourite laptops last year, the Dell XPS 13 is an attractive ultra-thin laptop with a stunning display.

Dubbed the InfinityEdge display, this touchscreen's ultra-slim bezel looks about as thick as a line drawn by a marker pen. Its viewing angles are very wide and the colours look vibrant.

The processor has been upgraded to a slightly newer model. The XPS 13 also comes with 8GB of system memory and a 256GB solid-state drive.

Dell is giving away a pair of Bluetooth speakers with every purchase.

5 HP Spectre
$2,299

Booth 8150

Among the ultra-thin laptops at Comex, few will be as eye-catching or as lightweight as the HP Spectre.

Touted as the world's thinnest laptop at just 10.4mm thick, the Spectre has a copper finish that gives it a touch of class.

Despite its thin profile, its keyboard has relatively good key travel and has a handy backlight, too.

The Spectre is also outfitted with three USB Type-C ports. These Thunderbolt-compatible ports can be used to connect the Spectre to external displays, docking stations, and provides high-speed data transfers.

6 Lenovo Yoga 900S
From $2,299

Booth 8210

The Lenovo Yoga 900S is a hybrid computer that switches between tablet and laptop forms when you rotate its screen by its unique watchband-like hinge.

The Yoga 900S has a 12.5-inch 2,560 x 1,440-pixel display and a low-power Intel Core M processor. While this Core M chip is not as powerful as the standard Core i7 CPU, it helps the Yoga 900S perform well in battery stamina tests.

Included with the Yoga 900S: a USB Type-C to VGA cable (worth $59), a Samsonite carrying case (worth $129) and an Active Pen stylus (worth $59).

7 Microsoft Surface Pro 4
From $1,399

Booths 311, 6138, 8108, 8139, 8235

Microsoft's Surface Pro hybrid computer ranks as one of the best in the genre. Last year's Surface Pro 4, with a brilliant, high-resolution display and an improved Surface Pen stylus, was the best version yet .

Its Type Cover keyboard accessory (sold separately at $199) is much sturdier than the previous version's and feels less cramped, too.

If you purchase a Surface Pro 4 with at least an Intel Core i5 processor and a 256GB solid-state drive at Comex, you will receive a free Type Cover keyboard.

Other freebies include a Sculpt Comfort Mouse (worth $39.95) and GrabCar vouchers (worth $30). You will also get a free pair of Golden Village movie tickets when you charge your Surface Pro 4 purchase to a Citibank card.
