SINGAPORE - Virtualisation software company Parallels has launched Parallels Desktop 12 for Mac with a host of new features.

These features in the new virtualisation software include having an "always on" Windows 10 in the background and as such, the ability to launch Windows 10 applications almost instantly. Parallels Desktop 12 is also compatible with MacOS Sierra, which is expected to be released later this year.

In addition, users can also schedule Windows updates at night for less disruption. Included with Parallels Desktop 12 for Mac is a free one-year subscription to Acronis True Image, which helps to simplify incremental virtual machine backup.

A new Parallels Toolbox app for Mac is included in the package. This app, which comes with 20 functions, allows user to easily hide the desktop, capture a screenshot of a window, download videos from YouTube and unpack zip files easily with a simple click instead of command keys.

Furthermore, Parallels Desktop 12 now supports the popular online first-person shooter game Overwatch, as well as Windows 10 Xbox app for streaming and playing Xbox games.

The new version also promises performance improvements of up to 90 per cent faster snapshot creation, 60 per cent faster suspension of virtual machines, 25 per cent faster shared folder performance and for developers, 25 per faster compilation of Visual Studio projects.

Parallels Desktop 12 for Mac will be available for $108 on Aug 23. Users with Desktop 10 or 11 can upgrade to Desktop 12 at only $68.
