The Plantronics BackBeat GO 3 is a complete redesign of the GO 2, which was a pair of great budget wireless earphones for active use.

Like the GO 2, the GO 3 is designed for active use. But, when I first got these wireless Bluetooth in-ear earphones, they refused to stay in my ears, no matter what ear bud sizes I tried.

I then realised I had to shove them in deeper than I am usually comfortable withand also to make use of the rubber loops on top of the earbuds to keep them secure in my ears.

Unfortunately, they don't seem to be very friendly to those with smaller ear canals, like me.

The loops have a tendency to pop out, especially when my head is bobbing up and down while I'm jogging.

But when they are snug in the ears, the sound quality on the GO 3 is solid throughout the entire spectrum. Bass notes are resonant without being overpowering, while the highs and mids cut through very cleanly as well.

This makes the GO 3 suitable for a wide range of music, and should suffice for the majority of consumers looking for a pair of relatively inexpensive earphones.

I like how most rock and heavy electronic tunes come across very robust and full.

Since wireless earphones are commonly used for sports, it's important for them to be powerful enough to get your heart rate up.

They are loud enough to drown out that annoying radio station while at the gym, for instance, or to lose yourself while jogging at MacRitchie Reservoir.

The copper-grey version of the earphones looks very stylish, with copper-coloured caps that look like wood grain from afar.

The sleek metallic sheen on the cobalt black version looks fetching too.

The earphones are not waterproof, so don't try to dunk them into water. However, they can withstand a jog in a drizzle because of what Plantronics is calling a "nano-coating".

This means they're sweat-proof, too, so you just have to give them a good wipedown after some vigorous activity and they are good to go.

The internal battery lasts 6½ hours, which is pretty decent.

Interestingly, there is an option for a carrying case that doubles as a portable charger.

Simply charge the case and connect the earphones when it's flat while on the go and you can get another 6½ hours out of it.

•Verdict: A sleek, stylish pair of Bluetooth earphones with good sound quality across most genres.
