High-end bars and eateries changing the face of once-seedy Boat Quay
Long known as the more seedy and touristy of the quays along the Singapore River, Boat Quay is undergoing a transformation as higher end bars and restaurants replace previous tenants.
Six new food and beverage outlets, such as Bastille wine bar, London gastropub, and Homebodies cafe, have opened in the area in the past three months.
They add to the more than 10 other outlets which have opened there in the past year. And long-term Boat Quay tenants like Harry's Bar and The Penny Black welcome the buzz they bring.
Rents have spiked in response, in some cases tripling from what they were just two years ago. Some landlords are now asking $18,000 per month for single floor, riverfront units. Tenants would have scored all three floors of a shophouse for the same price two years ago.
