Yes, we are enjoying the good life

MISS Tan Lin Neo summed up perfectly the Singaporean situation ("High cost of living comes with good quality of life"; Monday).

Look at the long queues at hawker centres and foodcourts. If these people are really concerned about the cost of living, shouldn't they be cooking and eating at home?

These questions may help us gauge whether we are enjoying a good quality of life:

- Do we have massive unemployment to deal with?

- Is crime so rampant and frightening that we are afraid to leave our homes at night?

- Is anyone denied access to decent health care due to financial constraints?

- Are our children denied access to education?

If the answer to all of the above is "no", then we must admit that we are better off than those in many other countries.

We have indeed made great strides in the last 30 years or so.
