England players offer support to troubled Gascoigne
LONDON (AFP) - Manager Roy Hodgson and captain Steven Gerrard revealed on Tuesday that England's players have offered help to former Three Lions star Paul Gascoigne in his battle with alcoholism.
Gascoigne, who won 57 caps for England, has admitted himself to a treatment centre in the United States after video footage emerged of a shambling public appearance that he made at a charity event last week.
Speaking prior to England's friendly game with Brazil on Wednesday, Gerrard said he and his team-mates had contacted the Football Association to offer their support to the troubled 45-year-old.
"It's something we've already tried to do," he said.
