Randy Travis admits driving drunk, gets probation
SHERMAN, Texas (AP) - Randy Travis has pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated in a case that began last summer when the naked country music star crashed his Pontiac Trans Am.
Travis received a 180-day suspended jail sentence, 24 months of probation and a US$2,000 (S$2,500) fine.
He entered the plea Thursday in a North Texas court. The misdemeanor was punishable by up to two years in jail and a US$4,000 fine.
Authorities say a Trans Am registered to Travis veered off a road in August near Tioga, north of Dallas where the 53-year-old singer lives. The car struck several construction-zone barricades.
