Exempt families from paying maid levy

AS A working mother, I need a maid to take care of my little child.

Maid levies cost $170 (concession) or $265 (normal) per month. Before my child starts primary school, the levy would have set us back by at least $14,000.

This is a heavy burden, on top of all the increasing costs of raising a child.

I suggest that families be exempted from paying the maid levy as they need the maid to take care of young children or aged parents.

Unlike foreign workers hired by businesses, maids do not generate any monetary profit for families.

Childcare centres are poor substitutes for a maid, as most of the time, they close before parents can get home from work.
