Hundreds of singles to mingle at two dating events next month

Two large-scale dating events for singles will be held here next month, amid new findings that singlehood rates in Singapore are on the rise.

The Social Development Network (SDN), the current incarnation of government matchmaking agency the Social Development Unit, will hold a masquerade ball for 500 singles at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre on Feb 2, the largest dating event held by the network to date.

The other event is MachiCon, a dating event that originated in Japan, and where up to 200 singles will mingle at designated restaurants in the River Valley and Boat Quay areas.

The Marriage and Parenthood Study 2012 commissioned by the National Population And Talent Division revealed that out of 2,120 singles polled, 83 per cent want to get married.
