Linking MRT network expansion and 2030 population
IN ANNOUNCING the plan to double the size of the MRT network ("MRT network size to double by 2030"; last Friday), Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said the expanded network "will have more than the capacity needed to meet the expected increase in public transport ridership in the next two decades".
However, in order to assess if the capacity expansion will be sufficient, it is necessary to know the planning parameters for the population of Singapore in 2030.
Therefore, would the Government share its working assumptions about Singapore's population in 2030, underlying the Transport Minister's statement that the MRT network expansion is sufficient to meet future ridership demands?
