Mala xiang guo heats up People's Park Food Centre scene


Fans of tongue-numbing mala sauce, have tissue paper on hand for the sweat and sniffles that come with tucking into the latest spicy craze.

Called mala xiang guo, it is from China and is all the rage in Beijing and Sichuan. Called hot numbing fragrant pot in English, it is also garnering fans here.

So popular is the dish that customers should be prepared to queue for it at any of the three outlets at People's Park Food Centre.

People choose from a variety of vegetables, seafood and meat. These are then stirfried with a tongue-numbing chilli sauce that usually comes in low, medium and high levels of spiciness.
