Lush layered crepe cake now the dessert of choice


A layered crepe cake has been making inroads here.

Mille Crepe cakes, which originated in a New York patisserie called Lady M Confections, is made with at least 20 paper-thin French pancakes layered with fresh pastry cream.

The cake also has a burnished gold sheen of caramelised sugar, and it must be served chilled. Other versions of the dainty dessert include chocolate flavours as well as fruity ingredients.

The latest players to introduce the layered cake include Jakarta-based First Love Patisserie which opened at Ion Orchard's food hall three weeks ago, as well as Japanese cafe chain Doutor Coffee, and Korean cafe Paris Baguette.
