Question of gratitude

IN MY view, national soccer stars Shahril Ishak and Baihakki Khaizan ("Shahril, Baihakki must stay: FAS"; Tuesday) are short on gratitude in trying to secure moves to Thailand.

Yes, footballers generally have a short career and no one should begrudge them the opportunity to earn more money while still playing.

However, both players should remember that when they were experiencing salary problems during their stints in the Indonesian league, it was the Football Association of Singapore that offered a way out by offering them playing contracts with the LionXII team, and making them "heroes" again.

The two players should "repay their debts" by at least seeing out their current contracts.
