Man gets four years' jail and caning for robbery with hurt

A fruit seller was jailed for four years and ordered to be given 12 strokes of the cane on Thursday for robbing and hurting a Vietnamese woman.

Quek Pheng Hock, 49, admitted to robbing Ms Bui Thi Minh Dieu, 33, of a mobile phone and $1,700 cash and injuring her left middle finger and left palm at Deluxe Hotel in Lorong 8 Geylang on Sept 23.

A district court that he approached the victim at a pub in Geylang and engaged her for sex in exchange for a payment of $250.

While they were in the hotel room, she asked him for money, but he told her to wait while he called his friends to pass him the money.
