Wayne Lai beats Raymond Lam, wins third TVB acting prize

Hong Kong - The people of Hong Kong have spoken and picked When Heaven Burns, a politically tinged tale of cannibalism which was outlawed in China, for Best Drama at the TVB Anniversary Awards.

The accolade was one of three decided by public voting, in a first for the station's annual trophy show, and there had been fears that the categories would become popularity contests.

The other two prizes, Best Actor and Actress, had been expected to go to Raymond Lam and Kate Tsui, two stars with the biggest fan bases, for the drug-bust drama Highs And Lows.

But in one of the biggest surprises on Monday, Wayne Lai won Best Actor for the third time for his title role in The Confidant as Li Lianying, the favourite eunuch of Empress Dowager Cixi.
