Telco's IT scheme by and for seniors

STARHUB agrees wholeheartedly with Mr Geoffrey Kung's premise that seniors are sometimes the best people to understand and, therefore help, other seniors ("Seniors know seniors better"; last Saturday).

We believe that, given our growing life expectancy and greying population, it is necessary to stay active and connected, with information technology as an effective means to communicate and connect.

However, it can also be a challenge for senior citizens to learn about IT from the younger generation, who may be more familiar with IT and therefore not understand senior citizens' difficulty in learning.

That is why StarHub launched the Golden Gurus programme, in partnership with the Council for Third Age and RSVP. Through this initiative, we will empower tech-savvy senior volunteers to teach other senior citizens how to stay in touch with IT.

Through the Golden Gurus, we hope that both the tech-savvy and the less IT-literate will enjoy active ageing while staying connected to their loved ones and society.
